question about demodex and immunity ( in puppy)?
I’m looking for people who have fought demodex in their dog and “beat it”. We have been fighting this for months. She is on oral ivermectin. I have also been trying to boost her immune system, since this is DIRECTLY immune related, I feel that treating the symptom and not the problem is just silly. I have been giving her extra zinc, echinacia, flax seed oil and extra vitamin E. She eats Nutro lamb and rice which is wheat free. Does anyone know what else I may be doing…is there more I can do to get her immune system stronger? I have been thinking about getting some puppy formula with colostrum…do you think that would help if I put that with her food every day? I have done A LOT of reading on demodex, and have read alot of weird things people tell you to bathe them in, but I want something that is safe and works! I feel her immune system is the first step, since I could kill the mites, but if her immune system is still weak, they will just keep overtaking her. Anyone?
I rescued a bulldog puppy that had demodex, he broke with it at 4 weeks of age. I put him on a good food I used solid gold-really hard to find. I also gave him Pet Tabs a daily vitamin. I started with Mitoban Dips when he got a little older, we did 2 treatments and noticed a huge difference, then they back ordered Mitoban so we could no longer get it. Then we switched to ivermectin orally did that for about 2 weeks and his hair and skin started looking bad again, we did a skin scraping every 2 weeks and were always positive. I continued the ivermectin orally because it sort of kept him at a stand still, he still had the mites, but he didn’t get anymore sores and his hair wasn’t growing in. When he was 10mths old we finally found more mitoban I gave him a bath every 2 weeks for a total of 6 treatments, did a skin scraping every other treatment, and the mites decreased everytime, after his 5th dip we did another skin scraping and it was negative, so we did a 6th dip just to finish him out. He turned 4 on Oct. 5, and is doing awesome, no more problems, with mange. I still give him pet tabs everyday. Good Luck
